I was stuck so deep in diet culture that I didn’t know what it felt like to be hungry or full anymore. I was completely out of touch with my body cues, obsessed with calorie counting and had terrible body image and confidence issues. “My biggest fear was going back to the way I was...

(on and off diets and hating myself and my body) and I also feared causing these same food and body issues in my future children. After just a couple of months with Alissa, the guilt I had around food and eating had pretty much stopped. "I started working with Alissa because the thought of going on another diet made me cry...

I’ve tried every diet that exists only to gain more weight over time. The more I would restrict food the more binge eating I would do just to start the “diet cycle” all over again. “Before seeking support from a dietitian, I kept cycling from restricting to binging and spent so much energy worrying about my food choices, family meals, or the search for “healthy options”. I would often feel guilty if I broke my “rules/should” for eating or exercising. I had such negative body image, and I feared it would affect my two very young daughters. “Before I worked with Alissa, I had been struggling with disordered eating for over 10 years. In my teens, it was a full-blown eating disorder, but even after I discovered intuitive eating many years ago, I still regularly went through the diet/binge cycle and used exercise as a weight-loss tool. Having read tons of books on intuitive eating, emotional eating, mindful eating, etc, etc, I considered myself an expert on the subject, but still couldn’t figure out how to make any of it work in my actual daily life. “I felt panicked and out of control around food and with my body image. I hit a point where I couldn't do it alone anymore...

and no other professional seemed qualified to help me or had the perspective that I needed.

Working with Kelly, I was opened up to a variety of resources and a community in the anti-diet/intuitive eating world. I learned the sources of my disordered eating and body image issues and was able to identify the triggers for my disordered eating, thoughts, binge eating, etc.

Kelly is patient-focused. She allowed me to guide the sessions but was always there to provide resources and support throughout. She was very responsive to email and always available when I needed help outside of our sessions.
