If you feel stress, anxiety, sadness or shame when you see photos of yourself, you’re not alone!

Swipe for some tips on how to deal with it, without devolving into a deep shame spiral 🫠

You can also hear me talk about this on the @foodheaven podcast or link in bio to read the full blog post 🤗

It is possible to get to a place where looking at photos doesn’t cause as intense of a reaction. Repeated exposure helps too - the more you look at photos of yourself, the more used to your appearance you get. And it helps to sit with and unpack the feelings and beliefs underlying your feelings.

The next time this happens to you, try the following:
1. Notice what thoughts arise when you look at the photo. Take a step back, pause & create some space to observe your thoughts. “I’m having the thought that I look awful in this photo” or “I’m having the thought that I wish I could be thin”
2. Reflect on:
-What is the story that you are telling yourself about your body?
-What are the thoughts, feelings & beliefs behind that story?
-Where did you learn these beliefs? Who taught you this?

Recall what was happening & how you felt at the moment the photo was taken. What memories from this moment do you want to remember when you look at this photo? For example, instead of focusing on how you look, can you think about the fun that you had that day or the people you spent time with?

3. If it’s a photo from the past, think about:
-What is it about that body that you’re missing?
-What is it about that body that you think is going to make your life better right now?
-What was going on for you mentally & emotionally at that time?
-What did you have to sacrifice to maintain that body or size?
-Were you truly happy with your body at that time, or were you still trying to change it?

Entrepreneurship is not a linear path; neither is building a weight-inclusive, justice-informed business.

While you might wish it were a linear “Do this step by step process and you’ll be set!” situation, in real life it’s a messy, back and forth, sitting with discomfort, doing the hard personal work, few steps forward-few steps back (or so it feels like) kind of process.

This can be really challenging - especially when you’re swimming against the tide when it comes to cultural beliefs about body size, weight, nutrition, and health. And even more so when you are part of a culture and profession that is all about you getting it “right” all the time.

Since I started my business over 7 years ago I've felt overwhelmed, lonely, confused, and questioning if this was the right path.
I've felt "imposter syndrome", had confidence issues, a never-ending (NEVER ENDING) to-do list, and regularly have thought: “Should I just go back to what I was doing before?”.

It was (and still is) a lot to manage on my own.

Which is why we need to have spaces where we can learn, discuss, process, unpack, get feedback, and have support and accountability to do so.

That is what The Liberated Clinician is all about! We have 3 spots left and enrollment closes this Friday May 6th. Link in my bio for more info!

Whether you are at a place of feeling "up" or whether you are in the "down" - this is all normal. This is all part of the process. You are IN the process, right now.

If you’d like more support as you learn new ways to do business and work with your clients, I’d love to invite you to join us in The Liberated Clinician 🤗 Link in bio to join!

And I’m tagging some of the incredible guest speakers and supervisors we’ve got confirmed 🥳🥳
